PDMC
The Professional Development for Math Coaching institute (PDMC)
The Professional Development for Math Coaching institute (PDMC) is based on the CMCP materials and is structured to bring together math coaches from kindergarten through middle school and those who provide professional development or course-work for math coaching. During the institute, participants engage in discussions of cases of coaching and investigate mathematics related to K-8 classroom settings. Sessions explore the following essential pedagogical issues of math coaching:
- Cultivating relationships based on mathematics teaching and learning with inexperienced, experienced, and resistant teachers;
- Preparing for and conducting classroom observations;
- Planning for and facilitating mathematics discussion in teacher meetings;
- Framing the connection between coach and teacher goals;
- Collaborating with principals and district administrators; and
- Refining and reflecting on coaching practice.
For an application to the PDMC summer institute, see Summer Institute Applications.
See the Schedules & Costs page for schedule information.
The Professional Development for Math Coaching - Facilitator institute (PDMC-F)
The Professional Development for Math Coaching - Facilitator institute (PDMC-F) is a new 3-day program designed specifically for participants who are responsible for coaching programs - whether these are on-going or just beginning - and who are interested in learning how to implement rich PD programs for their coaches. The institute will support leaders in:
- Cultivating a community of math coaches;
- Providing an in-depth study of the facilitation of PD materials for coach professional development;
- Consideration of coach case writing as a tool for learning;
- Collaborating with district leaders from across the country; and
- Setting strategic agendas for coaching work and support of that work in districts.
Attendance at the PDMC-F is predicated on attending a PDMC institute or in consultation with the PDMC facilitation team. Please e-mail Amy Morse for further information at amorse@edc.org. For an application to the PDMC-F summer institute, see Summer Institute Applications.
